vs Wollondilly (First Grade)
A disappointing result on the weekend for the Demons as we were unable to secure a place in the finals with a below par performance against a hungry Wollondilly side. The first quarter was a tight affair with both teams trading goals in a free flowing encounter. The Knights then stepped up a gear in the second quarter and the Demon players did not respond well. A couple of missed opportunities and a lack of pressure led to a half time deficit of almost 5 goals. Jace Southwell, Jake Gordon, Damien Wallace and WIll Calvert were standouts with Dale Richardson providing a good target up forward in his first game back in almost 2 months. We came out a bit stronger in the third quarter but again missed opportunities left us with a mountain to climb going into the final quarter. Unfortunately, it was not to be as the Knights continued their dominance in the last and played a much better brand of footy on the day. Other good performers for the Demons were Clint Maynard and Chris Weller who consistent performances every week as a great marking option up forward have been a highlight of the year. The Demons will have to go back to the drawing board this week and regroup with a trip to Port Kembla this weekend of vital importance as the First Grade side our now out of the four on percentage.
We have a score to settle with Port after the beat us up there by 1 point last time when we were undisciplined and lacked commitment. Good numbers at training last night but would like to see a few more on Thursday. We have both grades playing on the weekend for the first time in a few weeks, we need to get the numbers so as not to let down your mates. It was good to see a few of the injured players at the game on the weekend, however a number were conspicuous by their absence.
There are 3 tickets left at $30 for the Swans vs Saints game on the weekend. The bus is leaving ALB at 0945, the Aussie at 1000 and will be leaving for the Swans game soon after the First Grade game at Port (enough time to have a shower). If you want a ticket you need to speak to me or Cranky before Thu night. Also those that haven't paid yet please get the money to Cranky or myself ASAP.

Week 12
at Kiama (First Grades - Reserve Grade was forfeited)
Hope you all enjoyed your weekend off (I know Ty, BK, Bob, Spida, Hutch and Shimmo had a good time) now it is time to get focused again as this weekend will determine whether we decide if we makes the finals or not!! Last night at training we only had 11 players and 4 apologies, that is not good enough!!!! We need to get a full side on the field this weekend if we are going to beat a fired up Wollondilly side that know if they beat us they can make the finals. Ressies have a week off but I would like to see every player on our list at the game this weekend, injured or not. We need to get behind each other and re-invigorate our season to ensure we can achieve what we set out to do this year. There are a few guys coming back from injury and unavailability this week, so let's get a good numbers to training on Thursday and have a red hot go this weekend, remembering that the First Grade game starts at 1pm because there are no Ressies.
I want to make special mention of the 17 players that put on a guernsey and battled all day against Kiama. If you didn't have a good reason not to be there I think you really let your team mates down as they struggled without a bench and after Goof's season ending injury played 2 down. Thanks to all the supporters and club personnel that assisted and especially to Ty for taking the reigns for the game. Despite the scoreline there were a few positives to come out of the game with a BOG performance from Simon Levy and solid contributions from Cameron Cullen and Michael Hutchesson, with Brett Kelly and Matthew Webb mentioned as well. Welcome back to Will Calvert who is a timely addition after some more injuries that seem to have really crueled us this year.
On another note please try to get down to the Aussie Hotel on Friday nights for the raffles especially if you are going on the Footy Trip. Also tickets to the Swans v St Kilda game after the Port game on 1st August will be purchased after training tomorrow. If your name is on the sheet a ticket will be purchased for you. If you want tickets and your name isn't on the board in the Clubrooms please see me at training tomorrow, call me or email me before tomorrow night. We will be getting a bus up leaving soon after the Port game and returning later that night after the Swans have been embarrasseded by the Saints.
Let's all get together and show everyone the true Demon's spirit this weekend with a great win and a large crowd (starting at 1pm).

vs Bomaderry (Both Grades)
Disappointing results for the weekend with both First and Reserve Grade succumbing to traditional rivals Bomaderry. We wore yellow armbands in a 'call to arms' in support of the Cancer Council into research and information regarding Men's cancer.
The day started with glorious conditions for the Reserve Grade match with two sides fairly evenly matched on the ladder with our boys showing some good form of late and hoping to be able to put one over the Tigers. From the start it was evident that the Tigers had some young, quick players that were going to make it difficult for our more experienced players to keep up and the Tigers took a two goal lead into the first change. Some determined play from our boys saw a better performance in the second quarter and the lead was whittled down in the first half of the quarter thanks to some enterprising play from Francis Walkers, Chris Weller and Ray Drysdale. But some costly lapses in the latter part of the half saw the Tigers extend their lead slightly. The third quarter was a tight affair with both sides kicking two goals leaving us within striking distance at the start of the last quarter. Similar to last week we came out of the blocks quickly in the last kicking the first goal and putting the Tigers under pressure. But by losing a couple of key players to injury and running out of legs,we couldn't sustain the effort like last week and Bomaderry held firm and put the match beyond doubt with a couple of quick goals. Strong performers were Sean Quinn in the ruck, Michael Hutchesson, who was everywhere, Luke Penglow in the back (and forward) line, Francis Walkers who tried hard all day and Chris Weller again helped out.
The wind started to pick up for the First grade game with the outer side of Tom Smith oval seeing a lot of action. Starting with the slight aid of the breeze we were hoping to put some scoreboard pressure on the Tigers at the start, but a couple of missed opportunities and strong forward play from the Tigers lead to a 2 goal lead for the boys from Bomaderry at the first change. The winds picked up and so did the Tigers in the second quarter kicking seven goals to three in what would turn out to be the decisive term. The Tigers were efficient and we were missing a couple of key backmen and could not match up with the strong forward line of Andrew Lee and Steven Klein. Jace Southwell was playing strongly in the centre with Phil Henshaw and Jonathon Wilson was outstanding in the ruck. Michael Hutchesson was involved a lot with Troy Nicoll and Scott Clarke strong in the backline. We really needed a big third quarter to get back in the game, but could not get the ball on the boot due to great pressure from the Tigers and despite holding Bomaderry to one goal due to hard work in the backline could only kick one for the quarter ourselves. In the last quarter the wind really picked up making the conditions difficult for both sides but the Tigers showed more poise and again we ran out of legs in the end as we had eight guys doubling up and couple out to injury. Good performances from Cameron Cullen, Jace Southwell, Jonathon Wilson, Phil Henshaw, Sean Suridge and Simon Levy were the highlight of a slightly below par performance that will have to improve over the next few weeks. We travel to Kiama next week and know that we have our work cut out for us. Hopefully we will see a few more available for the game if not for the following game at home vs Wollondilly after the bye.
Lastly, a successful event was held on Sat night with the Trivia Night raising over $570 and congratulations to the Dummy Spitters by finishing with 2 near perfect rounds to take first place from Team Bails and The All Seasons. Thanks for all those that contributed and participated in a really good event.
Attached are the answers for the ongoing quesions on the night. If you put Bill or Steam Shovel for the Bill the Steam Shovel you got half a point (he was from Mr Scribble and Friends). Myanmar is the official name of Burma.
I will be at training Tue but will be on leave from Thursday (taking the family to the Gold Coast) leaving Ty in charge this week for the games against Kiama.

Week 10
at Norths (Both Grades)
It was an up and down Saturday evening last weekend with night games organised by the North's club at North Dalton Park. After a couple of wins on the trot we were looking to test ourselves versus one of the top sides in both grades.
Reserve Grade were hampered by a lack of numbers and we had a couple of players volunteer to run in the Two's to help bolster the numbers. A solid start with some strong play all over the ground gave us a lead at quarter time. Norths came out stronger in the second quarter and we squandered some good scoring opportunities to relinquish a slender lead to the home side at half time. Jeremy Wild was standing up strong in the ruck, Phil Henshaw was getting a bit of the footy and Chris Weller was providing an excellent target up forward. We fought back stongly in the third quarter to trail by 1 point going in the final stanza and wanted to erase memories of the 2 point loss we had to North's in the first round. The last quarter was a struggle with both teams finding it difficult to put it through the middle and it looked like we might come up short again until with three minutes to go Liam 'Emu' Carruthers put one through to give us the lead which we grimly held onto. There were strong efforts all over the ground with Luke Penglow doing some tough work in his first game, Steve Wall strong in the backline, Jake Gordon, Craig Godfrey and Phil Henshaw getting a lot of the footy and Mark McDougall doing well in a unfamiliar role. A great win away from home by the Boys and thanks to Chris and Emu for helping out.
First Grade were a little disorganised (thanks to the coach playing to the final whistle in Ressies) and took the field against a fired up Norths outfit with some concerns over numbers (the bench was a little thin, and became thinner after Vickers had to come off). We started OK but the Wollongong boys are a big and quick team and we did not seem to be able to sustain much pressure against their run and carry. We had a number of opportunities in the second quarter, having the same number of scoring shots as Norths but failed to capitalise putting us behind the eight ball at half time. We showed a lot of heart in the final half with only a couple on the bench but failed to stop the North's boys from running out comfortable winners. Great efforts from Cameron Cullen (keeping Jason Lucas relatively quiet), Jace Southwell, Brett Kelly, Sean Suridge, Scott Clarke, Troy Nicoll and Jeremy Bayley highlighted our performance with the first two really standing out.
This Saturday we play at home against Bomaderry and really need a better turn out if we are going to come away with the points. Bommo have improved since our first meeting and we are starting to struggle with numbers again (8 backing up last week). Let's get some good numbers to training this week and get 2 teams out on the paddock against the Tigers so we can sing the song in their face.
Trivia Night this Saturday Night commencing at 1830 at the Sportsman's Club near the rugby Oval. Let's get some good numbers helping the Club raise the funds to get the building next to the ground together. Would love to see ex-players, families (kids are encouraged to attend) and friends at this event. Entry is $5 for adults, $2 for kids, BYO nibblies with some small eats provided (thanks Serco). There are cash prizes for the winning tables and lots and lots of giveaways during the night. Come along, support your Club and have a great time.
